About Saanen Goats
Our fresh milk is the product of SAANEN goats; first bred hundreds of years ago to produce the finest milk for drinking and making cheese. This nutritious milk is collected at the farm for use in our soap making operation.
The SAANEN dairy goat originated in Switzerland, in the Saanen Valley. Saanen does are heavy milk producers and usually yield 3 to 4 percent milk fat. They are a medium to large goat in size (weighting approximately 145 lbs./65kg) with rugged bone structure and plenty of vigor.
Does should be feminine, and not course. Saanens are white or light cream in color, with white preferred. The hair should be short and fine, although a fringe over the spine and thighs is often present. Ears should be erect and alertly carried preferably pointing forward. The face should be straight or dished.
